How do you format a Sony Vaio Laptop?

The team does not come with a recovery disc when it was purchased in 2005. I tried all the tricks, as the holding F10 when booting up, and do not work. I have an XP Professional disk in the drive when it comes to this (I've double checked, and unity, at least knows it's there.

Most new computers in the list 2 years of age have a boot menu option that could started by pressing the F10, F9 or F12 (can press the 3 buttons together) and can not select the CD / DVD boot. Also, if this fails, just go to the BIOS by pressing F2 or the Del button and change the first boot from the hard disk or HDD0 or HDD1 to CD / DVD.
