How do I reinstall Windows XP on my Sony Vaio OEM PCVRX860 computer when you just replace a bad motherboard.
I have all the recovery discs that came with your computer. I called Sony and they wanted $ 286 for the motherboard witch is ridiculous. So I was lucky to get a new card in COMP USA for $ 60.00. I do not want to buy a new OS when I have that should be able to transfer due to a ruptured plaque.
The first comes first, is the chipset for the new motherboard is the same as the old board? If Yes, then it is easy. Just reuse the hard drive again. When starts, remove all old drivers and install all new drivers that came with the new motherboard. It should be done in minutes. You ONLY need to reinstall XP if the board is taking all the different chips. To re-install XP just insert the XP OEM disk in the CD-ROM drive and reboot the system. Installation detect the current XP on your system. Option you select should have re-install or repair. Please re-install, select.
