Apple vs Apple MacBook 24-inch iMac? for a 12 year old?

Well, he currently has a Sony VAIO desktop XP Media Center Edition thats about 3 years old, he be getting a new computer wen leopard comes out, its good we will replace your desktop with an iMac or MacBook for him that be better for him? i dont want to hear about free offers, shudnt or having one or nething well, I just want an answer to the ultimate explanation, this is important, if you get the MacBook, which is still going to keep your desk, or shud i get both, but thats unlikely, too wud not like Macs Suck and as that will make us happier and worth the money to summon his age, that's a bit to sum up everything I SAID I DONT want to hear !!!!! He would be happier with the 24 "iMac and it is better in terms of manipulation and visual effects look beautiful in it. The MacBook is paramount for the job, but How much work could a 12 year old do?
