Can you save a Sony Vaio Laptop (256 MB RAM), with Pentium III .. about 7 years old?

My laptop is pretty. very slow. It takes a full 10 minutes to just turn on .. and the use of Adobe software takes forever. I feel it is a good machine, but wondered if you can save with the updates? If so, how much would it cost? , .. Or is it time for Chuck? Help:)

Well PIII 256 MB RAM and is not exactly designed to handle software today. I doubt that could expand the RAM from 256 could have very well been the best for a laptop at the time. I would suggest buying something else new (there are plenty of laptops under $ 500 which will run much much smoother), something like: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834146581 for example. Most software today requires at least a P4 processor and 512MB of RAM. Edit: Also a group of people suggest using a Linux distribution thin instead of Windows - you could do that, but if you want to run Windows software on it (in wine or God forbid in a virtual environment) or any other resource-intensive things I was going to go into the same problems as before. The best course would be boot time and the fact that you could use basic things without going into the problems speed.
