I have a Sony Vaio Laptop and the screen is very dark you can barely see the contrast is at the top any ideas?

Not sure so your question really is. Is it so dark you can barely see an image? If so, backlight is off and you need to replace the screen of your laptop. A good place to look is eBay or could be as simple http://www.screentekinc.com has Fn and hit the up arrow key. Good luck.
