Add RAM and CPU back to my PC?
I have a Sony Model: VAIO VGC-RB30 Memory: 512 MB = 256 MB (removable) + 256 MB (removable) Maximum amount of memory: 2.0 GB Processor: 3.0 GHz Intel Pentium 4 530J Chipset 800MHz FSB, Intel 915G chipset. This is the second part of Question 1.) What is a chipset. Segui Intels website and says its upgradeable to 4 GB of RAM, but Sony's website says its only expandable to 2 GB and that's why I put 4 sticks of 1GB each is says no ??????? 2.) My CPU's. I want to upgrade that too, but I'm not sure if my computer can support it. I get a "Intel ® Core ™ 2 Duo Desktop Processor E6600 "# Intels website says http://processorfinder.intel.com/Details.aspx?sSpec=SL9S8 check your motherboard, how can I do that So someone has advice update heres the specifications comps http://www.docs.sony.com/release/specs/VGCRB30_mksp.pdf
1. Chipset is basically Northbridge on the computer that controls the speed of memory and the amount and such is a bit complicated to explain. I really can not understand why you could not put 4 sticks 1GB in since you have 4 slots that each support up to 1GB each and your chipset supports 4GB, but I guess Sony has to rely on, who do not want to spend that money to avoid work. To be honest, I really do not need more than 2GB anyway. 2. I know for a fact that this chipset will not support the Core 2 Duos, for something that only support a 800Mhz front side bus, and the Core 2 Duos have 1066. There are other architectural reasons as well.
