Sony VAIO power input?

I have a Sony VAIO PCG-K45. The port on the back of the laptop is broken. When you insert the adapter food, the icon in the display still shows it is in the battery. I move the adapter around to a certain position and hold it in place for that works. If I let go, that goes back to the battery. Is this something that can be fixed or should I be in the market for a new laptop? If it can be fixed, is something that can be done by a competent do-it-yourselfer or is time for professional help?
