SONY VAIO Configuring wireless connection?

I have a Sony Vaio Pcg-FRV25 laptop. The online specifications say it has capacity wireless connection, which I guess means it is set to connect to the Internet, mostly, right? I have a Belkin wireless USB adapter. I trying to connect via my Belkin router dad (I tried to install it on my computer with the CD I had, but did not work.) Do I have to buy my own router in order to be able to configure the wireless connection? I'm usually very good with computers, but I really could use some help here.
