Question about recording / audio editing ... software and hardware.?

I recorded parts of a song on my keyboard, and want to edit on the computer with Audacity. My sound card: SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC cable from the headphone jack on the keyboard to the microphone jack on your computer Laptop: Belkin F8Z181-06-GLD 3.5mm to 3.5mm Mini Stereo Dub cable for iPhone (TM) My laptop is: Sony Vaio Vgn-FZ290 Processor: Intel (R) Core (TM) 2 Duo CPU T7500@2.20 GHz Every time I play the song again in the laptop, it does not sound so good. But audacity performs songs perfectly. It is the question of the microphone slot, cable, sound card, or all?

I used Audacity to record quick demo CDs by bands that undoubtedly has the quality for recording of sound .. It's what you have but how you use it. Any attenuation (reduction in signal strength) in a short amount of cable would not be perceptible. unbalanced high impedance cable under six feet long will not collect any noticeable audio interference. balanced, low impedance cables are usually only used during longer microphone cable runs. Using the headphone output of the select line keyboard section of the input list in Audacity, although it can only a microphone into the connector. The headphone output impedance of the signal is high and must match the input level. The microphone is low impedance setting to a mismatch certainly cause distortion and the problems of game levels. The output level from the keyboard and then must be reconciled with the record level in the program to produce distortion-free recording. The strongest peak waveform must be only in the upper and lower limits of the waveform window. 99.9% of sound recording is as recorded instead of why. been doing for 25 + years. Trial and error is your friend. There is no such thing as "plug and play with the recording.
