How can I make my computer faster?

I tried the following: - defragment - msconfig / start-up configuration - elimination spyware - cleared all cookies "I have a Sony VAIO with Windows XP Media Center Edition and I have 512 MB of RAM with 80 GB hardrive i want to get the up to my laptop.
