Sony Vaio Intel Pentium Iii

How come my laptop can not connect to an Ethernet network or the wifi?
I inherited this laptop from my aunt who uses dial-up. A business card PC so I assumed it can go wifi. I can not. also it cannot connect to broadband and Ethernet. What is wrong with this? Has AOL on it, so dial-up is fine, but its so slow, and I plan to travel. The laptop model is Sony Vaio Pcg 993L. I do not know when was this purchased. Processor has Intel Pentium III and Windows 2000. Thank you!
Unless you plan on using AOL, you must go to Add / Remove Programs and remove AOL entire system. You can not override wireless or Ethernet connection. You need to click on Start, go to connect then to show all connections. To activate the connection Ethernet, right-click the connection, local area connection, then click Enable. Use the same procedure to select the connection wireless Internet. You can only use the wireless Internet if you have a wireless router in the House. Good luck!
