Intel Core i7 is only 1.6 GHz ?!?!?

I have a serious question. New Intel Core i7 processors have clock speeds ridiculously low. I'm talking about 1.6 GHz in a GAMING LAPTOP. That's not true! I've seen in Alienware and Asus laptop costs over $ 1500! These should have at least 2.4 GHz Is there an excuse for having a slow CPU?
