What is the Intel Core Duo - how fast is my computer in real terms?

Hello. I have a Sony Vaio with an Intel Core Duo T2300 - 1.66. My question is, how fast is it? Does duo ',' mean 1.66Ghz speed is doubled, or is the overall speed? Could run PC software with a minimum of one processor core 2Ghz?
