Connecting monitors to my PC help !!!???

I have a Sony VAIO 17-inch connection to a Dell monitor. I also want to is connected to my HDTV and I just purchased an HDMI cable connected and the HDTV. The problem is that only 1 of the monitors works when connected both. They are different resolutions, but how can I make all the monitors work when connected, no 1? Please help! I am running Windows Vista Business that helps. Sony Vaio Ar 570 laptop and I also realized that high definition television is on, the speakers of my laptop does not have sound. Work meanwhile, is using the port HDMI on my laptop and the other is to use the blue thing with a bunch of metal rods. I forget what its called. But both have ports for this and they both work.

1. # You need the laptop model from Sony. 2. Are you set to display on two monitors? - Hardware support this? 3. Operate independently both (not simultaneously, as this is the problem), but if you try one or the other works? ** Update: Information on HDMI Configuration: http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/support-info.pl?template=&info_id=23 It supports dual display of prices. It will be the Nvidia GeForce 8400MGT or 8600M GT video chipset.
