Sony Vaio Battery Adapter problems ... beep?

I have a Sony Vaio FE series laptop that worked beautifully for me the last 12 months I've owned. Ive taken on international travel, domestic travel to all corners of the country without problems. Locking the lid is a little loose, due to normal use, but otherwhise perfect, even the battery runs up to advertised amount of working time. However, as soon as my one year warranty ran out, the AC adapter was in the fritz ..... Do not charge the battery, or run the laptop, when I plug in the wall that sounds like a pump and the status light is dead. I talked to a person that will help Sony and was told that its damaged state. It costs 128 $ new Sony, there are several compatible adapters for $ 50 or less, and I'm actually bidding on one used by 20 $ On eBay. Is there any way this can be fixed or remedy? And does anyone know why it happened? Btw. its an adapter VGP-AC19V13 should worry about buying used on eBay?

All things wear out over time. It seems that some internal components of the adapter has failed. In fact, all adapter makes a noise, (mine currently does a static noise as if I have the time to my ear), but usually not audible. Chances are reaching the end of life of the adapter. The adapters may last longer when properly cared for. Mine is still working and has been over a year and a half. I have a Toshiba. The adapter can shorten life if used continuously, without letting it cool (computer off). You may want to try a different power cable (the part that connects the brick to the wall outlet, assuming it is removable). Sometimes the cable can also burn. But as you said the adapter is playing, then you're probably dead. When purchasing an adapter, be sure to check in the return policy and warranty. They also confirm that the product description is correct. Verify the part number, the power you can find the power in the original adapter or in the bottom of the laptop. Make sure the number of AMP is at least its original classification. This will save a lot of pain headache of having to return a wrong product.
