Dell Latitude D620 Laptop Review

The Dell Latitude D620 is a portable 14-inch widescreen business equipped with the latest Intel Core Duo. The D620 replaces the D610 and provide a full review in both design change and internal components. The new charcoal gray industrial-looking black D620 expresses the strong build, which Dell calls "Road Ready", and with plenty of available built-in wireless communications this notebook is the road ready in more ways than one.

Design and build

The D620 is the most interesting in adopting a widescreen format, a feature that date in reality has been pushed further into the channel of consumption of notebook computers. Dell estimates that the types of businesses prefer this format as well though. After all, a widescreen display (available in WXGA and WXGA + resolution) allows easier have two windows open next to each other, at the same time. Side-by-comparison of documents, Web pages or spreadsheets is an example of common business tasks more easy to do on a widescreen.

Aesthetically the D620 looks nice and professional. It is mostly a dark charcoal gray (almost black) in the interior with silver and silver cover. This provides for an industrial and muscular look, quite the opposite of light gray and white design of the laptop line Dell Inspiron. All new Latitude laptops (D420, D620 and Dell Latitude D800 battery) to carry this new color scheme, I think, is distinctive and professionally - which is not exactly elegant and stylish as Apple or Sony, the Latitude favors deep and noticeable grooves opposed to an Apple without problems in every aspect, but the look works. And it is certainly an improvement over the D610 look which was business boring and very typical, with its gray and square appearance.

The industrial aesthetic of the future are true to the actual generation of the notebook. The D620 is very tough, but uses a magnesium alloy casing. This results in strong overall physical protection of the notebook, worry-free event of cracks appearing or problems with excessive flexing. The hinges are steel, Dell claims that have been tested up to 20,000 cycles (openings and closings) to assure freedom from loosening and wobble. The D620 relies also have a new barrel design resist vibration better than previous Latitude laptops. Another moving part on the D620 is the screen end, this is also constructed of metal for long life and a nice look to boot.

The most important thing to protect in a notebook in most cases the hard drive (in which all your data is stored), data is irreplaceable and sometimes invaluable, while the hardware is not so. As such Dell has implemented technology that reduces StrikeZone the number of strokes experienced in the area of your hard drive during a fall situation. You can also get shock-resistant hard drives in capacities 60GB and 80GB offering more physical protection to data.

The D620 weighs about 5.6 pounds with a 6 cell battery, optical drive installed and the power cord and adapter. Given the fact this notebook is a magnesium alloy casing and not plastic is used too, the weight is pretty impressive. It is the lightest, thin and light by any stretch, and is thicker than the ThinkPad T-series laptops, for example, but still quite comfortable to carry in a backpack, without feeling the weight too.

RELIABILITY: Straight out of Dell Leasing, will surely delighted with the quality and functionality of this laptop. This laptop has been used in a corporate environment and is in great condition. This point is very professional reformed, but may show some signs of normal use and wear (minor cosmetics). It has been thoroughly tested and is 100% functional.

CAPACITY EXTENSION: The Latitude D620 has a modular bay located conveniently on the front which can hold an optical drive (CD / DVD / CD-RW / COMBO / DVD-RW see specs of the drive that came with this option), disk drive, an extra battery or second hard drive.

Piece Of Mind: Bid with confidence. We are offering a 30 day limited warranty on all laptops that we sell.

NADA MOST NEEDED: This laptop package is complete and nothing more is needed for you to start.

Good battery life and an impressive feature set for business
Dell Latitude corporate notebook line has been a long-term pillar for many people a going concern, offering a good balance of performance and Dell D620 battery latitude power. Dell has recently revamped its Latitude series and new D620, located in the center of the range. Our review sample came with an Intel Core Duo T2500 clocked 2.0 GHz, Dell currently offers the T2600 (2.16GHz) or T2400 (1.83 GHz) as alternatives. Track that is 1 GB PC2-5300, although once again, Dell offers other options. eher kurz gehaltener Test; abrufbar online

Keyboard and touchpad

One of the most important of a notebook is, of course, ease of entry, also known how easy it is to write and move the cursor around the screen. The D620 keyboard is full size, is nice and firm with no Flex and generally a pleasure to use. As with typical Dell keyboard, the keystroke is lighter than say a ThinkPad - meaning not have to press a key is so hard to register a keystroke, but it's a little easier to touch a key and register a keystroke. Depending on your style you can write well or not, very fast light touch Typers tend to like Dell keyboards though.

Screen

The D620 is offered with a WXGA (1280 x 800) or WXGA + (1440 x 900) screen. The WXGA + will give about 26% more screen space. As mentioned before, Dell is the adoption of widescreen format with the thinking that allows companies to users to more easily from side to side document windows. The widescreen format also offers a lower profile in general, this is good for working in cramped spaces like an airplane, and actually means the notebooks footprint is approximately 2% less overall.

The D620 has a built-in ambient light sensor integrated monitor the brightness of the screen when Dell notebook battery. For example, in a dark room is darkened screen brightness as it takes less to see the screen, but in bright light putting up the screen brightness so it is easier to see. When in power automatically display becomes brighter. You can replace the light sensor environment for brightness control of yourself, of course.

As far as screen quality, brightness is decent, but certainly not the best market and nowhere near as real as some of the displays high-end consumer notebooks. It is a matte screen so it does not get a reflection office lighting. There is some backlight leakage from the bottom and the overall picture is a little faded. Below are some screen images in the dark, the announcement of light leakage from the bottom on the status of all black screen saver in Windows XP.

Communications Wireless

Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and IrDA are all things we've seen in the past with the D610, of course, broadband also wireless communications to the D620 is new and very welcome. Dell offers the option of configuring your D620 with an internal antenna for either EVDO or HSDPA, depending on the region who lives and cellular provider you have. My D620 review unit was configured with the Dell Wireless 5700 EVDO modem. I love the fact that there are no ugly side dish or mounds Extra on the notebook where the antenna sticks out like almost every other WWAN equipped notebook uses (such as the ThinkPad T60 or Sony VAIO TX). By contrast, Dell's antenna on the screen and the D620 looks the same whether they do or do not have the WWAN option.

Through Verizon EVDO is a pleasure, if you have a Verizon Wireless' existing account is $ 60 per month for unlimited data transfer and if not then the cost is $ 80 per month. You also have the option of paying $ 15 per 24 hour access to Verizon's EVDO network. If you are a highly mobile worker EVDO can be a blessing and keep you from Fretting about where is the access point next to send / receive email or connect to the corporate intranet from the field. As we know, when you do not need a Wi-Fi HotSpot that are all parties, but when you need an access point to access the network and help you land a business critical path goes cold.

Speaking of finding wireless hotspots, Dell has included a unique feature called "Wi-Fi Catcher" located on the left side of the notebook. You can use this switch to turn off all wireless radios by putting it in the off position, but much cooler than push all the way to go and flash green while looking for a Wi-Fi and if one is present glows solid green, if none is found is shown in orange. This Wi-Fi Catcher works whether the laptop is on, off or in standby mode. So there is no need to boot and the search for wireless networks, just press this button to find out.

Battery

The D620 can be configured with a 4-cell, 6-cell or of 9 cell battery Dell Latitude D620. The battery location is rather odd in relation to other laptops, is in the front and not the back of the laptop. If you get an extended life 9-cell dell D620 battery are removed from the front a bit and create some kind of lip that extends 0.9 ". I have the type 6 cell battery and it does not stick at all. With Wi-Fi, and screen at half brightness and perform tasks such as web browsing and email I 2h 36m of battery life. That is decent, but not much. There are certainly thin and light, with better and prefer to see 3 hours or a little more for a thin-and-Travelogue light. If I had to upgrade to the 9-cell you undoubtedly more than 3 hours but at the cost of excess weight and increased notebook size.
